This position will assist with the University of Washington, Department of Pathology, NWBioSpecimen IT support, including maintenance of NWBio Core IT systems and development of technical informatics interfaces as needed. This position works directly with the NWBioSpecimen Director, Assistant Director, and NWBioSpecimen/ NWBioTrust staff and clients of NWBioS and NWBT to scope, define and facilitate the implementation of information discovery and integration services to support health information annotation and biospecimen research. This position will work with clinical and research support database developers and computing engineers.
RESPONSIBILITIES: This role requires strong familiarity with clinical information systems and a range of healthcare and clinical data, as well as experience in data analysis necessary to support standards-based data integration and export. This position works closely with members of the clinical data repository (Amalga) project in University of Washington Medicine Information Technology Services to maintain compliance, security processes, and grant requirements. This position will help support data flows of consent responses from tables maintained by the UW School of Medicine or designees to NWB UIs. This position requires combining experience with ETL tools, strong experience with data parsing, effective usability and workflow testing experience, and solid software development and project management skills, including documentation of systems and IT workflows.
This position will assume maintenance of a custom web application that uses Backbone, Bootstrap, and Gulp (front end) and Java, Spring, myBatis (backend), as well as develop additional software tools as needed to improve access to data, workflow efficiencies, and interfaces between IT systems.
This position has operational access to patient health information and clinical materials including pathology specimens, archival blocks and slides, and for these activities must adhere to the covered entity HIPAA Privacy and CLIA rules and has 'dotted line' reporting to the CLIA certificate holders and applicable clinical laboratory management staff.
Bachelor's Degree AND 3+ years minimum experience in a clinical or research information technology setting
Significant experience in clinical or biomedical research environment with data modeling, application design, and relational database development.
Experience with formal software engineering practices (source code version control, validation, deployment)
Experience with web application software development and deployment in Unix environments
Experience with relational database programming and design, database administration, SQL
Knowledge of HL7 healthcare data standard
Understanding of web security and privacy issues, particularly 21CFR11 and HIPAA
Strong problem-solving skills; must be able to think creatively and independently
Strong organizational and communication skills
Experience with Apache Tomcat
Experience with Backbone.js and Gulp
Experience with Spring Framework and myBatis
Experience with REST APIs
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
