The Leather Research Laboratory at the University of Cincinnati is the only center of excellence dedicated to leather testing and research in the USA. Our Mission is to provide focused leather testing, training and research at the highest possible level of scientific excellence and professional integrity in support of the leather industry.
The Leather Research Laboratory is seeking a Research Assistant that has a high level of concentration with attention to detail, the ability to prioritize their work to meet deadlines, and the ability to work independently with little supervision as well as with a team when needed. This position requires the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and international standard documents (ASTM, ISO, etc.). The position also requires excellent verbal/written communication skills and the ability to speak effectively before groups.
Perform sample preparation, conditioning and testing in accordance with internationally established methods for leather.
Draft reports summarizing experimental results.
Assist with test methods development and validation.
Assist with calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Maintain all data and other records in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices - (both manual and computer files) and the laboratory's quality system.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in chemistry or equivalent level of knowledge with at least one (1) year experience of working in a laboratory setting.
Frequent standing, walking, talking and hearing
May lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
Ability to identify and distinguish colors
