Purpose: The Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University invites applications for an open-rank position in Christian Social Ethics with a specialization in modern Roman Catholic Social Teaching, to begin Fall 2018. Areas of sub-specialization are open, but may include justice theory, race/racial justice, feminist/womanist/mujerista social ethics, liberation ethics, ethics of migration, economic or labor ethics, war and peace, ecological ethics, church and state, political ethics, or human rights. Basic Qualifications: 1. Completion of the Ph.D. or equivalent degree in ethics by the time of application.2. Evidence of effective and excellent teaching. Experience mentoring/directing graduate work is desirable.3. Evidence of an agenda for scholarship and promise of publication, or sustained publication (depending on rank), in the area of expertise.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will: teach four graduate courses per year on the semester system, including courses in Catholic Social Thought and topics in social ethics for doctoral and advanced masters students. The successful candidate will offer a range of courses that will serve JST and GTUs extraordinarily diverse student body and programmatic needs. direct (if appropriate to rank) and contribute to comprehensive exam, thesis, and dissertation committees; develop a research agenda that leads to peer-reviewed publications; provide service to the school as appropriate to rank. have or be willing to develop expertise in rigorous and engaging on-line education.
