Through the use of innovative approaches and emerging technologies and in collaboration with colleagues, the User Experience Librarian is responsible for coordinating the Library's user experience efforts, for both the online and physical library environments. The User Experience Librarian develops relationships with the Library's various user communities and utilize information gathered from these relationships to identify and prioritize the users' needs as they pertain to the Library.
The librarian provides evaluations and assessments of Library activities, services, and spaces and will coordinate assessment data collection, analysis, and documentation; develop an evidence-based approach to achieving strategic objectives related to library operations and user needs; and coordinate projects and support colleagues engaged in assessment work.
The librarian designs, develops, and facilitates the use of educational learning objects that support information literacy instruction and initiatives; designs and promotes information literacy initiatives through social media; provides Library instruction.
The librarian is responsible for research services at the Research, Engagement and Instruction (REI) public service desk and manages the physical space and efficient operation of the ARC.
User Experience and Assessment Librarian - Uses evidence-based research to inform current and future decisions on developing Library services and programs - Makes recommendations to the Library to assist the organization in adapting a data-driven approach to planning and decision-making - Designs and conducts qualitative and quantitative user needs/usability studies utilizing various methods (including, but not limited to, online surveys, card sorting, interviews, focus groups, and observations) to assess user needs, preferences and trends. - Utilizes user input to collaborate on and contribute to the creation, development, and implementation of innovative projects and services available through the Library's web presence. - Designs and conducts qualitative and quantitative user needs/usability studies utilizing various methods (including, but not limited to online surveys, card sorting, interviews, focus groups, and observations) to assess user needs, preferences and trends. Tracks trends in Library use to design awareness initiatives, upgrades services. - Oversees and maintains the library's social media presence. - Responsible for a leadership role in the Library's web presence and social media management. - Works with Library faculty and stakeholders to develop and manage efforts to disseminate information, build awareness, and promote resources, services, and activities to the university community of students, faculty, and staff through the use of websites and social media. - Participates in the updating of automated reference systems and related technology; provides training to staff as needed; markets Library policies, procedures, collections, and services for the ARC. - Maintains a current knowledge of user-centered best practices and new models in academic libraries. Shares this knowledge with faculty at faculty meetings 2-3 times per quarter.
ARC Manager - Manages the physical space of the ARC. - Provides a monthly ARC update at Library Council meetings. - Working with the iDesk Student Supervisor, develops a daily task list to ensure the efficient operation of the ARC. Reviews the task list with other REI faculty to ensure that all needed tasks are included. - Performs daily walk-through of ARC to ensure it is neat and technology, including Smart boards, are working correctly. - Working with the iDesk Student Supervisor, provides and monitors meaningful tasks and projects for iDesk students to ensure students have Library-related work to accomplish throughout their scheduled work hours. - Working with the iDesk Student Supervisor, develops a training checklist for all iDesk students. Provides feedback for continuous training for students. - Ensures accurate collection of iDesk statistics. - Updates iDesk manual quarterly and ensures that operations of the ARC run smoothly. - Ensures ARC space is set up for events as needed.
Research Services & Instruction - Provides research assistance for patrons in multiple modalities (in person, phone, chat, email). - Teaches credit-bearing courses in the Library and Information Science academic program. - Participates in UNIV101 Library instruction and collaborates in developing campus partnerships. - Serves as liaison to one or more academic programs with the following responsibilities: Builds and maintains skills and subject expertise to serve faculty and students in liaison area(s); assists with the identification, evaluation, and selection of materials; creates and maintains web-based subject resource guides.
Scholarship and Service - Meet the criteria of, and participates in, the university's peer review processes for advancement in rank, in accordance with the university's standards for reappointment, promotion, tenure and post-tenure review. - Participate in appropriate faculty and professional activities and actively participate in Library, University and professional committees and task forces. - Actively seek additional resources in support of Library's goals through university-funded programs and external grant opportunities. - As a member of the Library Council, make recommendations to the Dean on issues of planning, coordination and organization. - Complete special projects, committee assignments and other duties as assigned by the Dean of Libraries.
MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA accredited institution or an equivalent terminal degree.Candidates who receive their degree by July 1, 2018 will be considered.

Experience working in an academic library.

- Evidence of flexibility, enthusiasm, and collegiality, adept at handling multiple responsibilities, and the ability to work effectively with faculty, students and staff. Demonstrated commitment to customer service.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
