This position will fill an essential need of the Department of Occupational Therapy for a faculty member to conduct high-impact research, provide teaching, and engage in service to the Department, School and University. The position will permit the Department to replace a position currently held by a tenured Associate Professor in the Department. The successful candidate for this position will be well prepared to conduct the level of research that will contribute to Theme II of the Quest for Distinction for VCU to attain distinction as a fully integrated urban, public research university through contributions to research and scholarship that enhances human health and quality of life. This position will also support Theme I by helping VCU become a leader among national research universities providing occupational therapy students with consistently high-quality learning experiences.
Research o Engage in scholarly activity to enhance knowledge in occupational therapy. Design and conduct research, including acquisition of grant funding and overseeing of grant projects. Disseminate research findings via scholarly writing and publication; write and publish scholarly documents to advance the knowledge base of the profession of occupational therapy. o The faculty member will be required to have an established research agenda and a clear potential for external funding, and potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the department.
Teachingo Teach courses in the OTD and PhD programs consistent with areas of knowledge and skill and department need. Advise students. Serve as research mentor. Demonstrate advanced skill and judgment for relatively independent decision-making in isolation and as an active team member related to course design and development. Deliver course content and provide timely evaluation of students.
Service o Serve on department, school, and university committees and engage in other forms of university service. Provide professional and community service in area of expertise.

The Assistant Professor candidate will have an established research agenda and a clear potential for external funding.
Associate and Full Professor candidates will have a developed scholarly/research portfolio with evidence of interdisciplinary applications and external funding.
o Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
o Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
o Licensure or eligibility for licensure as an occupational therapist in Virginia
o Post-doctoral research training and/or a strong history of grant-funded research
o Background and experience in research, clinical practice, & teaching in mental health or adult physical disability occupational therapy intervention
