The Antibody and Bioresource Core Facility is looking for an individual to drive the Cell Line Distribution Service, which involves everything involved in on boarding and distributing published cell lines developed by researchers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) and The Rockefeller University (RU) around the world. This service ensures that unique cell lines developed at both of these institutions are disseminated in a manner that promotes scientific reproducibility by not only maintaining high quality control standards but also by providing a significant amount of information about each line. The person in this position will interface with a broad spectrum of people, including, but not limited to, the laboratory in which the line was developed, technology development offices, groups and institutions whose intellectual property was used to in the development of the cell line, other core facilities and the recipients of the cell line.
Have a comprehensive understanding of cell lines distributed by the facility on behalf of MSK and RU researchers and document this knowledge in detailed cell line information sheets and institutional databases, which are updated as more information is gathered
Establish cell line stocks, which are authenticated beyond simple STR profiles whenever practical
Keep abreast of the state of cell line authentication / validation in scientific research
Identify all the parties whose intellectual property is contained in the cell line and ensure it is appropriately managed
Be a resource for those submit and request cell lines
Track the cost of rendering this service for each line and propose cost recovery rates
Work closely with an administrative assistant to process requests from around the globe
Function as an integral facility team member, which minimally involves participating in standard laboratory activities and working with other staff members in support of other services provided by the core, such and antibody purification and the development of new monoclonal antibodies
For Senior Research Assistant level, a Bachelor's in Biology or closely related major with 10+ years biomedical laboratory experience or a Master's in Biology or closely related field with 7+ years biomedical laboratory experience.
For Senior Research Scientist level, a Doctorate in Biology or closely related major
A breadth of experience culturing and characterizing cell lines
Be able to read and understand how the cell line was developed
Experience in pharmaceutical company or biotechnology start up is an advantage
A solid appreciation of intellectual property concepts relevant to tangible research material is an advantage
