Reports to: Associate Director, Content Development
The Visual Communication Specialist will work with the Associate Director, Content Development, and other team leads to develop graphic components for print and digital media, including typography, layout, iconography, infographics, design templates, data visualizations, and other visual resources.
Duties and Responsibilities
Works with the Associate Director, Content Development, Visual Communications Manager, Communications Director and Directors and staff on the Engagement, Dissemination & Implementation and Science teams to:
Collaborate with staff and content experts to create graphics that clearly convey complex information to multiple audiences.
Design and produce communication products to support PCORI activities and announcements.
Create and implement design elements such as icons and logos to support a broad range of PCORI-branded communications across multiple media platforms.
Create and update slide and document templates.
Maintain PCORI’s design style and brand guidelines.
Provide additional design and visual communications guidance and materials as required.
Advanced knowledge and proven experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Acrobat Pro, and/or other data visualization tools, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. SharePoint experience preferred
Ability to develop appealing, accessible, and accurate data-driven infographics for multiple audiences
Advanced knowledge of graphic design principles, image formats, file compression, optimization techniques, and photo retouching
Strong analytical ability to capture and illustrate key messages and data for specific audiences
Creative thinking and strong drive to innovate and solve problems
Excellent project management and communication skills
Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines
Ability to work in a fast-moving team environment, as well as independently, with efficiency, patience, and professionalism
Pragmatism, flexibility, and willingness to take direction
Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts degree required; specialization in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or Data Visualization strongly preferred
Minimum of two to five years of experience designing infographics and data visualizations in a publishing environment required
Experience with medical/health/scientific publishing, educational publishing, or national consumer media strongly preferred
Deep understanding of industry standards and best practices in areas such as typography, color theory, and information design
Experience with branding and logo work
Experience managing project timelines and deliverables
