The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) seeks an individual to serve as the Senior Advocacy Manager of State Engagement and Outreach, a new position that will be integral to the success of the conceptualized NASSP Policy and Advocacy Center. The primary responsibility of the senior manager will be to recruit principals, assistant principals, and other stakeholders in grassroots advocacy and execute mobilization strategies to achieve the Center’s policy objectives. The senior manager will also be responsible for researching state issues affecting school leaders, working closely with the association’s 51 state affiliates and cultivating relationships with other state-based policy and advocacy organizations.
Develop annual goals and objectives for state engagement and outreach
Execute mobilization campaigns as part of a larger strategy to aid the organization in meeting its policy objectives
Lead the creation of an online community for principals, assistant principals, and other stakeholders committed to advancing policies and practices that support school leaders
Develop and execute a recruitment strategy for the NASSP Federal Grassroots Network (FGN)
Draft a monthly newsletter for advocates
Research state issues affecting school leaders and monitor implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act in the states, especially regarding use of Title II funds to support school leaders
Develop and execute a strategy regarding engagement and interactions with state associations in federal and state advocacy issues
Prepare and disseminate federal and state action alerts, phone scripts, and social media posts; and track advocate actions and results
Lead regular conference calls with key advocates from across the country
Develop and implement protocol for recognizing successful advocates
Conduct online and in-person trainings and advocacy workshops for advocates
Minimum bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Education, or related concentration
5+ years’ experience in grassroots advocacy or constituent mobilization
Analytical and critical thinking skills a must
Good writing skills and excellent presentation skills required
Knowledge of education policy issues a plus
Additional Salary Information: Excellent benefits package. Starting salary range low to mid $70’s.
