The University of Missouri Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (MU VMDL) is offering a 3-year residency training position in Veterinary Clinical and Diagnostic Microbiology. The program is designed to qualify the trainee to successfully sit for the microbiology certification examination administered by the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists in a selected subspecialty/ies of Bacteriology/Mycology, Virology or Immunology following requisite post-degree experience.
A DVM or equivalent degree is a prerequisite. Candidates should possess a strong academic record, evidence of interest and commitment to microbiology, and must be able to communicate with clients effectively. Missouri veterinary license is preferred. An internship is not required, but practice experience is helpful. The trainee must be enrolled in graduate school and may pursue a MS or PhD degree. Applicants pursuing the PhD degree will be assisted in identifying the additional 2-3 years of funding needed following completion of the residency. The resident will receive a salary of $30,000/year plus tuition assistance. Visit www.vmdl.missouri.edu for further information on the program. MU VMDL is an AAVLD-accredited veterinary diagnostic laboratory that receives approximately 45,000 cases/year from domestic and zoo/wildlife species. MU VMDL is also a member of the National Animal Health Laboratory Network and FDA Veterinary Laboratory Investigation and Response Network. It is home to four ACVM diplomates covering all the microbiology subspecialties.
