The Department of Art + Design at Central Washington University invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Graphic Design. The department is seeking a graphic designer who demonstrates a strong commitment to undergraduate education and student success while teaching a student body that is diverse with respect to socioeconomic status, race, culture, academic interests, and career paths.
The successful candidate will be able to teach all levels of graphic design and have demonstrated expertise in digital media and UI/UX/web design. All faculty members are expected to maintain a strong record of professional and creative development in the area specialized to their appointment. Additional responsibilities include program assessment, student advising, internship mentoring, service on departmental, college, and university committees, supervision of studio facilities and printing areas, curriculum development, and serve as a mentor to non-tenure track faculty who teach graphic design courses.
MFA degree in Graphic Design or appropriate related Design field;
2 or more years of college-level teaching experience;
Evidence of UI/UX/web Design and graphic design experience;
A record of ongoing creative and/or professional activity in graphic design and/or User
Interface/User Experience design;
Commitment to diversity and inclusivity through demonstrated experience working with diverse populations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
More than one year experience in graphic design, digital media or User UI/UX design in a professional or commercial setting;
Demonstrated expertise and/or experience in design theory and/or criticism
Demonstrated experience in typography, layout and identity design, and conceptual problem-solving;
Record of professional graphic design accomplishments;
Experience with curriculum development;
Demonstrated commitment to working with and engaging diverse students and colleagues both in and outside the school
