Under the supervision of the Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) Transit Operations Manager and Assistant Transit Managers, drives/operates a variety of passenger vehicles in support of the campus day and night bus service, Disability Van Service, premium transit services, Campus Tours, and Charters on scheduled or non-scheduled routes, on or off campus.

The unit pays for the renewal of the required medical certificate every two years.

Selected candidate must pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
Must possess valid Class B Commercial license to drive in the State of California, with passenger endorsement and a good driving record. License must not be restricted to vehicles carrying 15 passengers or less including the driver, but must certify individual to drive passenger vehicles weighing more than 26,001 gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) and carrying 20 passengers or more including the driver (DMV CLASS B LICENSE WITH PASSENGER ENDORSEMENT).
Successful candidate will be required to participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) pull notice system.
In accordance with the Department of Transportation (DOT) Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulations, must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and conform to and pass the on-going drug and alcohol testing requirements.
Successful candidate must comply with the University of California Policy on Substance Abuse.
Must possess a current DMV Medical Certificate and re-certify every 2 years.
Must be Air Brake certified.
Variable schedule; may include nights, weekends and holidays.
Selected candidate must be able to sit for long periods of time while driving.
Required to report known or suspected child abuse or neglect as defined by CANRA; required to sign a Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse prior to commencing employment.
Ability to safely drive and operate University shuttles as assigned.
Knowledge of two-way radio operations.
Ability to strictly adhere to all posted speed limits, traffic laws, safety requirements and University parking requirements.
Ability to learn and understand the campus schemes, routes, and bus stop locations.
Ability to interact in a professional, friendly, courteous manner with the public, interacting with persons of various backgrounds, including persons with disabilities, with different personalities under diverse situations.
