The Assistant Director of the Nurse Anesthesia Program is immediately responsible to the Director and acts in the Director's place during his or her absence. The Assistant Director will share teaching and administrative duties as assigned by the NAP Director including but not limited to participation in admissions, advisory, curriculum and evaluation committees supporting the NAP. In addition, the Assistant Program Director, will participate in College of Nursing events and committees as assigned by the NAP Director, the Dean or Associate Dean.
Position Qualifications:The Department of Nurse Anesthesia Assistant Program Director must possess the following qualifications:
Doctorally prepared CRNA.
Current unrestricted Nursing license in the state of Ohio.
Certificate of Authority to practice in Ohio as a CRNA by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
Current certification by the Council on Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.
Minimum of five (5) years' experience as a CRNA.
Experience as a nurse anesthesia educator.
Organizational skills and problem-solving abilities that permit the coordination of student and alumni activities.
Effective interpersonal skills to interact with students, faculty, alumni, and the community of interest.
Supervision: The Assistant Program Director reports to the Program Director, the Dean of the College of Nursing through the Associate Dean or Dean's designee while carrying out the responsibilities listed above.
Responsibilities and Functions:The position of Assistant Program Director of the Nurse Anesthesia Program will fill the responsibilities associated with the following functions:
Nurse Anesthesia Program
1.1 Assists with maintaining all aspects of the Program of Nurse Anesthesia within the Standards and Guidelines of the Council on Accreditation (COA) of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs and Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
1.2 Works with the Program Director and other faculty to ensure appropriate coordination of the didactic and simulation segments of the program.
1.3 Participates in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of classroom activities and simulation exercises.
1.4 Coordinates DNP projects and presentations for students and faculty mentors.
1.5 Coordinates and assists visiting lecturers in the preparation of classroom material as necessary.
1.6 Participates in the student selection process through interviews and evaluation of applicant records.
1.7 Assists the Program Director with administrative duties as assigned.
1.8 Serves on University of Cincinnati College of Nursing faculty.
1.9 Instructs students in classroom and clinical settings, assuring the correlation of didactic learning to clinical practice.
1.10 Monitors students' clinical assignments and assists the Clinical Coordinators in decisions relating to clinical assignments and clinical rotations.
1.11 Reviews anesthesia clinical and didactic courses for quality improvement and maintains records for all anesthesia courses.
2.1 Assists in nurse anesthesia faculty development.
2.2 Assists in the orientation of new nurse anesthesia faculty members.
2.3 Coordinates with departmental faculty on lecture assignment and scheduling.
3.1 Carries out policies and procedures that govern student recruitment, selection, evaluation, probation, and/or dismissal.
3.2 Participates in academic advising for all nurse anesthesia students.
3.3 Participates in the overall evaluation of student performance.
3.4 Participates in the annual admission process for the nurse anesthesia program.
4.1 Assists the Program Director to prepare nurse anesthesia materials for submission to external bodies (COA, CCNE, certification bodies, catalog, handbook).
4.2 Serves on University committees as assigned
Coordinates alumni activities in concert with the College of Nursing and fosters continued alumni involvement. Assists in development and coordination of a community-outreach educational program(s). Completes other responsibilities assigned by the Program Director.
