Under direct supervision, The Human Resources Generalist applies professional HR concepts, policies and procedures in the completion of HR assignments that are of limited scope and impact. The incumbent receives instructions on most work assignments, and regularly consults with HR specialists in the course of completing increasingly complex assignments; follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing HR situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained; and exercises some judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action.
This active administrative office supports the scientific efforts of the UCSC Genomics Institute, including overall operations, research and teaching efforts of GI faculty, which includes approximately 120 staff, postdocs, and students involved in projects supported by funds from the federal and state governments, private gifts, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI).
Under supervision of the Senior Human Resources Generalist or the Director of Operations, the Human Resources Generalist works in a team of Human Resources professionals who share the workload described as key responsibilities. This position works with records that may contain personal identity or other sensitive information. This position is part of a collegial administrative team dedicated to providing accurate, insightful, analytical, and timely administrative leadership, support, and oversight to enable scientific and technical advancements. The administrative team values organizational efficiency and effectiveness, fiscal stewardship, customer service, and continuous improvement.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations; demonstrates organizational skills and problem-solving skills.
Acquiring knowledge of the organization's policies and procedures, and knowledge of functional area, including knowledge of human resources best practices.
Ability to acquire knowledge of human resources policies and programs and organization policies and procedures.
Basic knowledge of a human resources management system (HRMS), and / or other related business software programs and systems.
