Full Time; Career Starting Salary Range: $51,100 - $89,200/annually. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Senior HR Generalist uses professional HR concepts as a seasoned, experienced professional to apply organization policies and procedures to resolve the full range of HR-related issues. The incumbent works on problems that are diverse and complex in scope, where analysis of situations require a review of a variety of factors. This position normally receives little instruction on day-to-day assignments with some guidance provided on new projects.
This active administrative office supports the scientific efforts of the UCSC Genomics Institute (GI), including overall operations, research and teaching efforts of GI faculty, which includes approximately 120 staff, postdocs, and students involved in projects supported by funds from the federal and state governments, private gifts, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI).
Under general direction of the Director of Operations, the Senior Human Resources Generalist works with a team of Human Resources professionals who directs the workload described as key responsibilities. This position works with records that may contain personal identity or other sensitive information. This position is part of a collegial administrative team dedicated to providing accurate, insightful, analytical, and timely administrative leadership, support, and oversight to enable scientific and technical advancements. The administrative team values organizational efficiency and effectiveness, fiscal stewardship, customer service, and continuous improvement.
Per the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA), this position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter. The selected candidate will be required to report known or suspected child abuse or neglect as defined by CANRA and will be required to sign a Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse prior to commencing employment.
Graduation from college with a major in business administration, economics, statistics, educational administration, political or social science, or an allied field, and four years of experience in administrative analysis or HR operations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
Thorough knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, knowledge of functional area and understands how work may affect other areas.
Thorough knowledge of human resources concepts, policies and procedures, employment practices, labor relations, salary administration, training and other areas of human resources.
Knowledge of a human resources management system (HRMS), and / or other related business software programs and systems.
