Under the general direction of the Student Employment Coordinator and South Monterey County GEAR UP Assistant Director, the Operations Coordinator/Student Employment Coordinator will participate in efforts to increase the number of educationally disadvantaged and/or low-income students who attain eligibility and competitiveness for admission to postsecondary education. The incumbent will provide direct and indirect administrative services, coordinate the day-to-day operations of the South Monterey County GEAR UP program and serves as the control point for communications and financial transactions. The incumbent will supervise student staff, perform/implement problem solving; policies; procedures; special projects management; procurement, preparation and maintenance of materials; correspondence; communication; scheduling meetings; events coordination; travel; and clerical/administrative support to the GEAR UP department and the Educational Partnership Center. Additionally, they will recruit, hire, and train talented undergraduate students from local area postsecondary institutions to provide academic support, advising and/or mentoring services designed to motivate junior high and/or high school students to prepare academically for high school graduation and enrollment in postsecondary education.

As a member of the Division of Undergraduate Education, the Educational Partnership Center (EPC) provides an array of school-centered and student-centered activities for students, parents, faculty, and community members across the Monterey Bay and Silicon Valley/San Jose regions to support students on the college-going pathway. The EPC coordinates new and long-standing student academic preparation efforts of the University of California, Santa Cruz with the goal of increasing access and opportunity to postsecondary education for students across our service area. The EPC provides support to faculty, staff, and outreach groups to work collaboratively with schools, community colleges, and universities to promote educational pathways to success for all students.
This is a contract position expected to last one year. The primary work location will be at designated secondary school site(s) in South Monterey County.
Selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
Must have the ability to work evening, weekends, and travel within service area and nationally, if necessary.
Must possess a valid license to drive in the State of California and maintain valid proof of automobile insurance.
Must have the ability to maintain appearance and conduct suitable for working in a professional setting.
Must be able to move materials, weighing up to 25-30 pounds, with or without accommodation.
Will be required to provide proof of negative TB test results within 60 days of hire.
Will be required to complete Title IX (Sexual Harassment) training every two years.

The selected candidate will be required to report known or suspected child abuse or neglect as defined by CANRA and will be required to sign a Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse prior to commencing employment.
Bachelor's degree in related area or equivalent combination of experience / training.
Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff verbally and in writing.
Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
Working knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs.
