Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee for the department of Radiation Oncology-Cancer Biology at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey. The primary purpose of the Postdoctoral Appointee position is to conduct basic research on the molecular mechanisms of mammalian genome maintenance under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. Specifically, the appointee is responsible for using various techniques of protein biochemistry, structural biology, and microscopic approaches to understand how proteins in the homologous recombination pathway repair damaged DNA, relieve replication stress, and ensure accurate chromosome segregation during mitosis. The appointee is expected to closely work with co-workers who primarily use tools of cell biology and mouse models to synergize scientific discovery. The appointee is responsible to drafts reports for inclusion in manuscripts and grant proposals.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Investigates the structural and enzymatic bases for proteins involved in the maintenance of genomic integrity.
Investigates the molecular mechanisms of mitosis regulation, DNA damage response, and DNA replication stress in mammalian cells.
Prepares written reports of research experiments.
Prepares grant proposals based on research conducted.
Gives oral presentation of the research
Must possess effective oral and written communication skills and ability to publish scientific research papers/articles.

Minimum Education and Experience:
The Post-Doctoral Appointee candidate should have a new or recent PhD degree in biomedical science, a general scientific background in cell and molecular biology, and solid knowledge in cell cycle regulation and DNA damage repair.
Prior technical experience with protein biochemistry or/and quantitative confocal microscope with live cells, and familiarity with structural approaches, are essential for the position.
