This position will fulfill several urgent needs of this division. Duties will include clinical responsibilities in all areas of cardiac surgery with special interest in the treatment of aortic disease pathologies including aortic valve, aortic root, and all thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms, as well as expertise in endovascular management of aortic pathologies and structural heart interventions. Having expertise in heart transplantation and use of mechanical circulatory support will be a plus. This person will be charged with the responsibility of developing a multidisciplinary aortic program along with vascular surgery, cardiology, genetics, rheumatology and imaging. This person will also play a key role in adult structural heart intervention and surgery.
1.Teaching Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in cardiac surgery for surgeons, medical specialties, medical and other students. 2. Research Clinical research will be encouraged. Opportunities for intramural and extramural funding will be explored with a goal towards extramural funding. Collaboration with basic science faculty in School of Medicine will be encouraged. Candidates with established funding will be strongly preferred. 3.Service Faculty member will serve on departmental, College, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g., reviewer, conference organizer, etc. 4.Other (for instance administrative duties, etc.) n/a
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Thoracic Surgery
Commitment to clinical excellence, education and clinical research.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Research Interests in Cardiovascular disorders that can lead to intramural and extramural funding.
Additional training in endovascular management of aortic and structural heart disorders.
