Summary: The Associate Director of Student Leadership and Engagement will work with a team of professionals to advance the mission and vision of the Office of Student Engagement. This position will facilitate and assess a comprehensive individual and organizational leadership development program. Special emphasis will be focused on supporting everyday leadership and harm reduction around high-risk issues within the Wake Forest University social environment.
Develops, implements, and evaluates the efficacy of Student Engagement initiatives that promote leadership and organizational development.
Develops a process for student leaders and organizations to develop, sequence, and track leadership skills and competencies utilizing the Wake Forest Leadership Pyramid and Expectations for Excellence frameworks, as well as the Campus Life Strategic Directions.
Partners with Student Engagement staff to support student organizations and fraternities and sororities in assessing and addressing leadership needs.
Oversees, assesses, and enhanced leadership initiatives such as CHARGE, Carpe Deacon, First Year in Focus, and the Women’s Leadership Symposium.
Develops and facilitates leadership initiatives that incorporate concepts of intersectionality, diversity, and inclusion.
Creates opportunities for exploration of intrapersonal, interpersonal, group, and community leadership that will prevent harms associated with high-risk behaviors in the social environment such as alcohol/drug use, sexual violence, and hazing.
Assists with creation, implementation, and evaluation of support for student organization advisors, chartering of new student organizations, and end of year recognition.
Transforms learning outcomes for Student Engagement peer mentoring and student employment initiatives to focus on the Campus Life Strategic Directions.
Oversees Wake Forest University participation in the annual ACC Leadership Symposium.
Serves on a variety of committees within Dean of Students/Student Engagement, the Division of Campus Life, and the University community.
Participates in departmental and divisional planning, professional development, and team building activities.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Master’s degree and five years of experience in Student Affairs, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to interact with students and parents of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
Knowledge of student learning theory assessment processes and procedures.
Understanding of relevant leadership theories such as the Leadership Identity Development Model, Servant Leadership, the Social Change Model, and Transformational Leadership.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision on a variety of complex tasks.
Demonstrated ability to think critically and proactively problem-solve.
Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
Excellent organizational skills, with accuracy and attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
Knowledge and understanding of academic cultures, rules, and regulations; including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and coordination of cross-cultural/diversity programs.
Knowledge of and a professional commitment to student learning and effective higher education administration practices.
Responsible for own work.
