The Scholarly Communications Coordinator (SCC) serves as the local expert concerning the evolving scholarly communications ecosystem and provides collaborative leadership regarding the planning, implementation, and assessment of the Claremont Colleges Library's (CCL) suite of scholarly communications services. Working closely with key stakeholders, inside and outside of the library, the SCC will have the opportunity to recommend new initiatives, propose strengthening established protocols, or retire obsolete practices, all with the goal of ensuring that faculty and students from the seven Claremont Colleges (7Cs) have the resources, support, and training they need to conduct meaningful research and scholarship.
The SCC will report to the Director of the Research, Teaching, and Learning Services (RTLS) division, and serve as a subject librarian and a member of a disciplinary team, as well as a member of the RTLS leadership group. As a division, RTLS focuses on teaching critical information and digital literacy skills to students enrolled in the 7Cs. The SCC will work with the Teaching & Learning Services Coordinator (TLSC) to integrate scholarly communications into the library's instruction curriculum and work with RTLS librarians to expand their capacity to support scholarly communications in their disciplines. These topics may include, but are not limited to: digital publishing, intellectual property rights, copyright, fair use, open access (OA), and open scholarship initiatives such as open pedagogy, open educational resources (OER), and affordable course materials (ACM).
The SCC will be a core member of a newly launched cross-divisional Digital Management Working Group that includes: the Council on Library & Information Resources (CLIR) Postdoctoral Fellow for Data Services, the Original Cataloging and Metadata Team Leader, and the Digital Asset Management Coordinator. The core objective of this new group is to ensure the sustainability, robustness, and strategic direction of our digital scholarship operations, platforms, and services.
The Claremont Colleges
Based on the Oxford model, the consortium combines the specialization, flexibility and personal attention of a small college with the resources of a large university. The five undergraduate colleges consist of Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, Pitzer, Pomona, and Scripps. The two graduate institutions are the Claremont Graduate University and the Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences. The consortium dates back to 1925 when Claremont Graduate University was founded in partnership with Pomona College, the oldest of the CC (1887). The Claremont Colleges Library
The library, located at the heart of the seven campuses, is the preeminent academic resource for the Claremont Colleges.
