University of Maryland Baltimore is currently seeking a Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator to join the Department of Surgery in the School of Medicine. The selected candidate leads the patient care activities of a cardiac transplant surgery intensive care unitfor the care of non-human primates in a cardiac research model. Responsible for overseeing research projects, andensuring that nurses are aware of study protocols. In a clinic setting, isresponsible for day to day scheduling and coordinating clinical nursesin the post-operative care of our non-human primates.
The positionincludes both a clinical role which will require on average four 12-hour andfour 8-hour bedside shifts per month and a coordinator role.
**This is a PART-TIME (20 hours per week), CONTRACTUAL position**

Conducts patient care in non-human primate ICU.
Supervises, trains, assigns work to, and evaluates ICU nurses.
Responsible for overseeing the direct patient care in a cardiac surgery intensive care unit for the care of non-human primates in a cardiac research model.
Coordinates the schedules of the OR and ICU nurses to ensure adequate staffing levels.
Trains nurses in new procedures and/or changes in study protocol.
Hires nurses or other staff as needed.
Attending all relevant meetings with veterinary and surgical services - Arranging and scheduling above meetings when necessary
Participates in grant and report writing as needed
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelors in Nursing
Experience: Five (5) years of experience as a registered nurse with at least six (6) months in a cardiac surgery intensive care unit. Positions within a research setting require at least 1 year of clinical research experience. Subject specialty necessary. Supervisory: Experience in patient care or project management. Licensure/Certification: Maryland licensed registered nurse. Other: May require training related to occupational safety and health, and environmental compliance
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Comfort working with non-human primates (prior experience useful but not required)
Excellent teamwork and leadership skills
