Desk Clerk I: Cheerfully greet residents, staff, and visitors in person or by phone and provide information about policies, procedures and the University of Chicago as requested. Receive, record, and distribute U.S. mail, U.P.S., Fed Ex, and any other packages using an online package distribution system. Must be capable of carrying or lifting up to 49lbs. Observe security doors and lobby entryway; check resident and staff I.D.'s as they enter the building; screen visitors and guest, notifying residents or Security as necessary; be aware of fire alarm and other emergency procedures. Keep alert to unusual circumstances, taking appropriate action and notifying University of Chicago police and file an incidents report as needed. Perform other tasks as requested.Check out and follow up for return of borrowed cleaning and recreation equipment and keys; maintain the appropriate forms and records. Responsible for accessing the automated on-call system in order to secure replacements of desk clerks. Request front desk supplies via on-line form; stock when received. Provide routine orientation to new employees as requested. Perform other tasks as requested. Desk Clerk positions are 9 months. Typically clerks do not work during the summer, winter or spring breaks when the buildings are scheduled to be closed with a few exceptions.
