Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate for this Environmental Epidemiologist (EE) position will have a doctoral level degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or closely allied health science. The EE must demonstrate, and maintain, an active, ongoing funded research program. The EE will conduct population health research using classic epidemiological investigation and advanced statistical analytics and serve as a subject matter expert on key population health issues. The EE will transcend traditional epidemiology in its breadth and analytics approaches toward population and global health measures and analytics strategies. The ideal candidate will be a skilled mentor and active collaborator as demonstrated by a record of peer-reviewed publications. The research of the successful candidate will focus on environmental epidemiology, which might include (but is not limited to) vector epidemiology, environmental risk factors for cancer, the built environment and health, air/soil/water quality, toxicology, occupational epidemiology, climate change and health, risk assessment, or any other area that fits within the over-arching term of environmental epidemiology.
Job Standard / Operational Needs: SUNY's College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) and Upstate Medical University (UMU) seeks internationally recognized experts in Environmental Health and Medicine to a tenured Associate/Full Professor of Empire Innovation position as part of the New York State Empire Innovation Scholar Program (EIP), which aims to expand the ranks of world-class faculty in the SUNY system. This is position is a part of a cluster hire, one of three faculty, for the Center for Environmental Health and Medicine. The successful candidate will join a growing team of collaborative and interdisciplinary researchers in Central New York, in the creation of a new Center for Environmental Health and Medicine, a SUNY-funded collaboration between ESF and UMU. Utilizing the expertise of the successful candidates, the Center will be able to leverage the robust facilities, faculty expertise, and platforms for research on a local and global scale to address the greatest challenges to population health. Linking local and global surveillance and research efforts will provide a unique opportunity for students, fellows and faculty. We would expect the EE to teach one 3-credit graduate-level course, plus serve as an advisor for graduate student capstone, thesis, or dissertation projects. The successful candidate will hold a primary appointment in Upstate's Department of Public Health & Preventive Medicine, with secondary appointments in additional departments as appropriate. The position will have access to graduate-level students in public health, medicine, basic biomedical sciences, and (from our partners at ESF) in environmental science.
