Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a User Support Specialist IV for the School of Nursing- Academic Support Services. Under the direction of the Director of IST Operations, the User Support Specialist supports the School of Nursing end-user community (faculty, staff and students) in the effective access and use of University information resources and compliance with infrastructure and operating standards. The primary purpose of the User Support Specialist IV position is to provide support for all technical questions concerning desktop software, hardware and network connectivity. Consults with IT leadership and keeps current with the latest desktop environment.
Uses general PC knowledge to provide basic personal computer support functions for all School of Nursing departmental work groups.
Provides training to end-user Windows and Mac-based platforms and other current or progressive desktop environment.
Provides IT help desk/customer service tasks such as hardware/software installations or repairs. Provides A/V support and troubleshooting in computer laboratories, classrooms, conference rooms and computer work spaces.
Assists clients in understanding and accessing network-connected resources at all levels within the University’s network.
Relates with the end-user community in a manner that promotes confidence in the client and the image of IT as a professional service-oriented organization.
Answers end-user questions or researches and responds to the question within an appropriate time.
Provides one-on-one end-user problem resolution remotely or in person for the school's end user environment.
Stays up-to-date with regard to industry standards and technology direction.
Performs tuning, monitoring and trend analysis for workstation equipment and associated LAN based operating systems.
Develops and maintains application and system documentation.
Collects data from the user community to assist in the evaluation of IT service delivery activities.
Assists with the preparation of documentation and informational materials for non-technical users.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Business Administration or a related field.
One (1) year of experience in the use or support of desktop computing.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Effective oral and written communications skills.
Knowledge of industry standards and trends
Demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems
Demonstrated interpersonal skills suitable for “service environment”
Mechanical skills appropriate to desktop computer support
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Standing, sitting, walking, driving, talking or hearing. Visual acuity to perform activities such as: viewing a computer terminal, reading, analyzing written information/data, etc.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds for the purpose of moving computer equipment.
Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
