Position Summary Susquehanna University invites applications for a Director of Choral Activities at the rank of assistant or associate professor (tenure-track at either rank) to begin in August of 2018. Rank is dependent upon qualifications and experience. Primary teaching responsibilities include the direction of University Choir and a select chamber ensemble and teaching choral conducting. The remainder of the teaching load (about 20%) could include music education, ear training, music theory or history, or studio voice, depending on qualifications and department need. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership of the choral area, maintain an active schedule of guest conducting and recruitment primarily in the Northeast, maintain relationships with high school choral directors, actively participate in professional choral and music education organizations, and participate fully in department activities, including collaborating with colleagues, hearing auditions, and attending recitals.
Required Qualifications Candidate qualifications include an earned doctorate in choral conducting (required by beginning of appointment in August, 2018) and evidence of creative and/or scholarly activity.
Preferred Qualifications Teaching and conducting experience at the college level preferred. Public school music education experience is desirable.
