This position involves the planning, coordinating, directing and supervising of BREC's special events and system-wide volunteer program.
Stay current on significant developments, trends, and best practices in volunteer management and parks and recreation.
Creates strategic plan and establishes goals and objectives for the volunteer program.
Pursue strategic relationships with companies, organizations, and institutions (i.e. Volunteer LSU, CityYear Louisiana, and LSU's Center for Community Engagement, Southern University's Center for Service Learning, Learning and Leadership) within East Baton Rouge Parish to increase potential volunteer pool.
Work with individual departments to create a volunteer plan specific to their programs and needs.
Identify and create job descriptions for volunteer positions.
Provide a unified point for volunteer access.
Recruit volunteers for all programs and at all sites within BREC and endeavor to match their talents and interests with appropriate position.
Market volunteer positions through online networking sites, Volunteer Baton Rouge, current volunteers, and other methods as necessary.
Give presentations regarding the possibilities of volunteering within BREC.
Interview, screen, and refer applicants to appropriate units
Perform background checks on all volunteers, as outlined by the Volunteer Credentialing Policy.
Work with appropriate internal staff to satisfy incoming requests for volunteer projects from the community.
Maintain database of volunteer workers and hours of work; prepare and present reports to management staff;
Organize and implements volunteer orientation and training specific to staffing needs
Plan, assign, and direct the work of volunteers; supervise volunteers at special events, as requested.
Monitor the daily activities of the volunteer staff and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of volunteer services through development and implementation of evaluation instruments for volunteer program.
Schedule and coordinate volunteer recognition and appreciation events, including the annual volunteer banquet--BREC fest.
Prepare and maintain procedural and training manuals, volunteer records and newsletter
Assists other Department staff in obtaining program supplies and insuring appropriate program set-up.
Serve as a liaison between administration, staff and volunteers
Insure reporting of volunteer hours to be used for income deduction as outlined in Louisiana Tax Code.
Coordinates the communication responsibilities and coordination of BREC's Special Events, including sponsorship development, promotions, staff development, maintenance and security.
Assists in the planning of parish-wide activities, programs and events including but not limited to fun runs, concerts, holiday festivals, contests, etc.
Research and recommend tools to aid in volunteer management tracking.
Performs other duties as assigned
Education Required: Graduation from an accredited 4 year college or university
Area of Study Required: Community Services, Human Resources Management, Public or Recreation Administration or related.
