Manage all student-facing aspects of UMSL’s veteran and military programs including, but not limited to: certifying enrollment for veteran and military student benefits; managing the day-to-day operations of the UMSL Veterans Center; providing advice and counselling to veteran students; developing and implementing plans, programs, and processes increase enrollment and success of military and veteran populations; and establishing relationships with federal, state and local veterans' services agencies.
-Receives, reviews and processes applications for appropriate benefits as the lead VA School Certifying Official for UMSL: responsible for compliance with applicable federal, state and university regulations and resolution of discrepancies in student applications as necessary. Ensures all audit and reporting requirements are met.
-Manages and monitors the daily operations of the UMSL Veterans Center and associated programs.
-Designs, implements and assesses programs that increase military and veteran enrollment, retention and graduation at UMSL.
-Supervises, hires, trains, and evaluates the performance of student staff and work study personnel.
-Expected annual enrollment increase of at least 5% in Veteran and Military students.
-Other responsibilities as assigned.
Supervision is received from the Chair of the Department of Military and Veterans Studies.
Will supervise student staff and VA funded work-study students.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Professional experience in a college student services setting
Professional experience administering activities requiring compliance with complex federal, state or other governing bodies' rules and regulations
Experience successfully working with diverse populations
Experience, training or education dealing with veterans and military students in higher education
Trained VA School Certifying Official
Direct experience administering and/or determining eligibility for VA benefits or other types of federal financial aid awards using the VA-ONCE (VA Online Certification of Enrollment) system
Knowledge of student information systems with a preference for PeopleSoft
Experience counseling students about academic and/or financial aid matters
Experience developing marketing or recruiting plans
Experience in website and social media management
