The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases. The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania, has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the ‘go-to’ organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space.
We are currently looking for a Core Director, Antibody Engineering to provide investigators and their teams with access to sophisticated antibody/protein engineering support services to facilitate groundbreaking gene therapy research. A successful candidate will have a thorough knowledge of principles of antibody engineering and have hands-on experience in antibody molecular biology. S/he also will be leading the antibody engineering, humanization, and affinity maturation projects; working closely with experienced scientists in the characterization of the antibody candidates in a dynamic, fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.
As the Core Director, you will be the primary technical resource for antibody engineering and research for all of GTP at PENN. You will be responsible for overall core operations, management, financial, safety, and compliance matters about the core. You may supervise and direct the activities of research specialists reporting to you. Also, in collaboration with the PI of the Gene Therapy Program and Directors of Research, you will contribute to assessing the rare disease programs of GTP to determine the antibody engineering needs.

Responsibilities: * Antibody and multi-specific antibody engineering * Direct experience with humanization and affinity maturation strategies and conduction * Determination of kinetic constants, and epitope mapping * Serve as a technical lead on projects in a cross-functional team setting and act as a champion for the antibody development * Take an active role in coaching and mentoring other scientists in the lab.
