Reporting to the Finance Director, the Project/Event Coordinator supports the programmatic activities of James Madison College. The position is responsible for the planning, organizing, implementing and monitoring of JMC events, in collaboration with JMC administration, faculty, staff and students. This person will work with Case Hall (REHS), and other venues, on the logistics needed to successfully implement the college’s programs. The Project/Event Coordinator handles all Case Hall room bookings, updates the college’s event calendar, and makes arrangements for food/beverages needed for each event. The position also handles guest visitor travel arrangements. The position will be highly knowledgeable about the roles and responsibilities of all units within the College with an expectation to function as a resourceful liaison between the Dean’s Office and students and faculty.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which would normally be acquired in a four year college degree in Public Relations, Communications, Business or in an area related to the work being performed; one to three years of related and progressively more expansive work experience in a field related to the position including planning and managing special events; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require experience in word processing, database, spreadsheet, desktop publishing and/or presentation software. Position may require software specific to the operational activities of the employing unit. This position may require special licensing or certification in the Field related to the area of employment.
Bachelor’s degree in business or other related field; self-starter whose strengths include creative thinking, excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills; ability to work with frequent interruptions; detail oriented with high level of accuracy; ability to identify and resolve problems exercising excellent judgment; articulate and professional; ability to handle varied, multiple and completing project priorities; ability to work independently on projects; dependability; ability to interact professionally and effectively with JMC’s multi-cultural students, faculty, staff, guests; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint; knowledge of EBS; knowledge of MSU policies and procedures.
