Advertised Summary Job Description: The Assistant Director is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Talent Search Program of the Double Discovery Center. This federally-funded program provides college access and financial aid counseling and information to approximately 800 high school and middle school students annually.
THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION. CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT IN THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON ONGOING SUFFICIENT FUNDING.
-Provides academic and personal counseling and preprofessional advising to low-income and first generation college-bound youth attending high school in New York City and enrolled in the Talent Search Program of Double Discovery Center, working closely with high school seniors.
- Supervises staff and coordinates professional development and training for Talent Search staff about topics including but not limited to college application process, financial aid, and student advising.
-Oversees the recruitment and management of all Talent Search volunteer tutors, mentors and teachers; including but not limited to coordinating training, overseeing volunteer assignments, managing communication with volunteers and student leadership, and assisting with the hiring and background check process.
-Coordinates management of summer college preparatory program, includes managing relationships with partner programs and organizations for year-round opportunities.
-Oversees Talent Search staff, manages program budget, and prepares proposals and annual reports including comprehensive federal grant reporting.
-Performs other related duties as assigned.
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or its equivalent required. Minimum two to four years related experience required.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Strong written and academic skills required. Previous experience in college advising, volunteer/service program management, school counseling and with programs for under served youth highly desired. Some previous supervisory experience highly desired. Spanish fluency a plus.
