A Research Associate is sought to lead in the design and execution of research projects pertaining to water microbiology. The Research Associate will conduct various laboratory analyses, including, but not limited to DNA extraction and analysis, 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing, qPCR, Metagenomic shot-gun sequencing, and Nanopore Sequencing. Data analysis includes bioinformatics, statistics, and preparation of figures and tables. The Research Associate will assist in training and mentoring students in the laboratory and data analysis and manage lab safety, including pathogens, chemical hygiene, and hazardous waste. Assistance will also be needed in grant proposal preparation, budget management and approval, and approving laboratory access and purchasing requests.
PhD in Microbiology, Environmental Science, or related field with applied microbiology skills. Experience in DNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, amplicon sequencing, shot-gun metagenomic sequencing, and Nanopore sequencing. Individual should have experience in statistical analysis and DNA sequence analysis, as well as preparation of figures and tables for publication.
Experience in student mentoring in the laboratory and field work in collecting water samples. Experience in safety training and management.
