This Engineer enables innovative solutions to facilitate UHG?s cybersecurity situational awareness, analytics, and investigations. Cyber security data is collected in structured, unstructured, and semi-structured formats, at varying velocities, and in a complex, dynamic security environment. This creates unique data engineering challenges in support of data scientists, analysts, and investigators. The ideal candidate has experience creatively navigating development and engineering challenges within a large organization.Primary Responsibilities:Forming strategy for data collection, data processing, and efficient use of the Optum Security Big Data LakeCollecting, cleaning, processing, and analyzing data related to enterprise cybersecurityCollaborating with external vendors and product teams to identify opportunities for new technologies or expanded use of existing technologyWorking with source data teams to facilitate and optimize data flow into the Data LakeDeveloping and engineering solutions for technical users to access data from the Data Lake through a variety of means, including APIs, flat file extracts, or web applicationsRemaining up to date and on the cutting edge of Big Data technologyConstantly learning and adapting to new techniques, languages, and technologiesPositions in this function develop and implement information security policies, standards and procedures to secure and protect data residing on systemsWork directly with user departments to implement procedures and systems for the protection, conservation and accountability of proprietary, personal or privileged electronic dataCoordinates, supervises and is accountable for the daily activities of business support, technical or production team or unit
Required Qualifications:Undergraduate degree in applicable area of expertise or equivalent experience2 or more years of implementing Big Data ingestion solutions including use of Flume, Kafka, Spark, and/ or NiFi1 or more years of utilizing Big Data resource and job managers including Oozie and YARN2 or more years administrating or engineering a Hadoop platform2 or more years of following and implementing Apache Top-Level projectsInterest in learning implementations of Open Source projectsBackground experience with data engineering with an affinity for developing code from the command lineFoundational knowledge in information technology, including hardware, networking, architecture, protocols, file systems and operating systemsFamiliar with Java or Python development in a large organizationPreferred Qualifications:Experience in the cyber security domainPetabyte-scale experience with Big Data engineering4 or more years experience working with Big Data systemsDevelopment of end-user tools to access data systemsTechnology Careers with Optum.
