Quest Montessori School, a coeducational Montessori school for students ages 18 months through14 years, seeks a Head of School effective in July 2018.
Quest Montessori School has assembled the pieces of the puzzle necessary to realize its vision of developing the state’s foremost toddler to eighth-grade Montessori program. The vision of this authentic Montessori school is now a reality as Quest now occupies a new 12,500 square foot facility for children starting at 18 months in our Toddler Program to age 14 in our Middle School Program. A new multipurpose space is currently under construction, which will add 3,500 square feet to the school.
After four years at Quest, current Head of School Michael Barclay departs at the end of the 2017-2018 school year for a new position. Therefore, the Board seeks another passionate educator to lead the school into the future.
The next Head of Quest Montessori will take charge of a vibrant, diverse and welcoming school community. S/he will find that the community of Quest is enthusiastic and ambitious about its future. Quest’s clear mission and established program truly empowers children to be academically motivated, artistically creative, physically active and emotionally supported to pursue that which inspires them.
Quest boasts a strong structure of teamwork and partnership between parents and teaching guides; children and parents demonstrate a great respect and admiration for the school’s talented and committed educators. Surveyed annually, parents have consistently indicated satisfaction with the quality of education delivered by Quest’s faculty and programs.
Quest’s physical facility was purpose-built for Montessori education (we have occupied this site since 2014) and sits adjacent to Cristoforo Park, providing students with easy access to outdoor education opportunities. The school’s location in southern RI is ideal for a Montessori program, with access to a variety of ecosystems (woods, prairie, river, ocean) yet easy access to Providence, Boston, and New York, which are all leveraged into various aspects of our program.
As Quest prepares for new leadership, the Board of Directors and the community at large recognize that this transition offers an excellent opportunity to move the school forward to a position of even greater strength.
The new Head will be charged with staying true to the vision of Quest’s founding families while ensuring the program’s commitment to remain an authentic Montessori program, and implementing measures to grow the school’s enrollment and program diversity. S/he will be tasked with stabilizing the faculty to achieve true 3-year cycles with a single guide or guides for the children in the primary and elementary programs. S/he will be asked to enhance admissions and retention so that the toddler, primary and adolescent programs become and remain fully enrolled.
The next Head of School will also be charged with building the school’s fundraising programs both through continued appeals to the school community and through outreach to other funding throughout New England.
Quest’s Head of School must be an articulate and passionate advocate for Montessori education as our school is deeply committed to, and rooted in, Montessori philosophy. S/he will be someone with prior teaching and administrative experience who demonstrates a supportive leadership style aligned with the guide model of teacher that is at the core of the Montessori philosophy. Above all, Quest seeks a compassionate individual capable of managing ongoing change.
The Head of School is responsible for the oversight of the faculty and curriculum as well as overseeing the day-to-day operations of the school. The HOS will be expected to carry out the mission of the school and work directly with the Board of Directors in achieving the established strategic goals. This is an exciting opportunity for an inspired leader to carry forward the momentum of a young and energized Montessori community.
Prior experience in the Montessori environment is required along with a passionate commitment to Montessori education; the school desires that the next Head will be Montessori trained and have had substantial experience in a Montessori classroom.
Demonstrated leadership experience in education, with prior administrative experience in a Montessori program, is required; the ideal candidate is a thoughtful, articulate and experienced leader who demonstrates the ability to create strong relations with the development team, faculty, staff, and other school constituents and motivate them all toward common goals.
A dynamic and energetic personality who enjoys being an active and visible presence on campus; the next head of school should have a warm, approachable presence that invites and respects the views of others, yet is able to be proactive and decisive when needed.
We seek a candidate with a trusting leadership style, who is comfortable delegating tasks to others, eager to empower people and willing to support people as they do their work well.
The Head of School must offer a strategic vision for the school and is expected to continue to enhance Quest’s development and capital campaigns and encourage a culture of philanthropy.
The next Head of School should have a strong aptitude for strategic thinking and planning paired with great integrity with a strong moral compass, as well as a willingness to hold him/herself and all members of the community to high standards.
