The School of Art in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment in Art Education at the assistant professor level beginning fall 2018.

Located in one of the most expansive metropolitan centers in the United States, and situated in the Sonoran Desert, the school supports a broad range of art practice and inquiry. Programs within the School of Art lead to the degrees of Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Art with concentrations in art history, art studies, museum studies, fashion; an online BA in art history; Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Art with concentrations in art education, drawing/painting, ceramics, fibers, intermedia, photography, printmaking, sculpture/metals/woods; Master of Arts (MA) in Art with concentrations in art history or art education; and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Art. In addition, the school participates in the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs in Design, Environment and the Arts housed within the Herberger Institute. With several nationally ranked programs and one of the largest comprehensive art programs in a public research university in the United States, the ASU School of Art plays a prominent role within the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts and is located on both the Tempe and downtown Phoenix campuses.
The Art Education program in the ASU Herberger Institute School of Art prepares students to succeed in multiple educational environments, offering a broad-based undergraduate curriculum with a substantial foundation in studio art, art history, and art education. The Masters of Arts with a concentration in Art Education program emphasizes teaching and learning in schools, museums, the community and online with interdisciplinary, multicultural and international components. The program has an international reputation as a leading research center, is nationally ranked among art education programs, and provides students with knowledge and resources to earn their teaching certification.
The position will serve undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Art's Art Education program. An active and significant record of scholarship and/or creative activity, advising students in academic and career planning, and other service are expected. The position offers opportunities for collaborative, interdisciplinary teaching and curriculum development.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Art Education or related field must be conferred by the start of employment. Experience teaching in K-12 schools, community institutions, or at the University/College level. Demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching and record of scholarship and/or creative activity in art education.
Desired Qualifications: Evidence of strong commitment to innovative research as well as undergraduate and graduate teaching. Evidence of strong commitment to community programs. Ability to contribute to the development of the undergraduate and graduate programs in Art Education. Interest in contributing to ASU's highly regarded online degree programs. Interest in interdisciplinary and collaborative teaching. Evidence of a commitment to diversity in research and creative activity, teaching, recruitment, retention, and service.
