We seek an innovative individual with outstanding teaching and research skills who will enhance our status as one of the leading global centres in the study of Mineral Deposits and Precambrian Geology, and contribute to our $104M CFREF-FedNor-NOHFC-Industry-funded Metal Earth project. Teaching responsibilities will include high-temperature geochemistry and analytical methods at the undergraduate level, and exploration geochemistry at the graduate level. Supervision of MSc and PhD students within a vigorous, externally-funded research programme that includes exploration geochemistry is expected.
A PhD degree is required at the time of appointment. The successful applicant is expected to contribute to continued development of a recently updated LA-ICP-MS facility (Teledyne Cetac Analyte G2 Excimer Laser, Thermo Neptune Plus high-resolution MC-ICP-MS, and iCap TQ triple-quadrupole ICP-MS with dedicated full-time technician), and will also have access to a wide range of additional preparation and analytical equipment, including a rock sawing/sectioning/polishing workshop, mineral separation laboratories, fluid inclusion lab (visible and IR), X-ray diffractometers, EPMA, SEM-EDS with top-of-the-line CL detector, and a Raman microscope. Members of HES also have access to EPMA, SEM, XRFS, ICP-AES, and solution ICP-MS facilities in the Ontario Geoscience Laboratories, located in the same building complex as HES and MERC.
