Postdoctoral Fellow – Fast Radio Bursts (PHYSIC 17-0106)
The West Virginia University Research Corporation is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow – Fast Radio Bursts. The role of this position is to support development and use of the “Realfast” commensal radio transient detector on the Very Large Array. The postdoc will be involved in Fast Radio Burst observations, data acquisition, follow-up, and interpretation.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Support development and operation of the Realfast commensal system.
Lead relevant science projects of interest to the candidate and within the scope of the project, such as multi-wavelength candidate follow-up campaigns, development of an integrated VOEvent trigger release system, cosmology and host galaxy studies with detected candidates.
Develop an independent or collaborative program of research relevant to the goals of the Realfast program, fast radio bursts, and other areas of transient or host galaxy science.
Attend research conferences and read scientific literature to keep abreast of technological advances and current research findings.
Identify and assist with acquisition of funding from public, private, and governmental sources.
PhD in astronomy, physics, computer science, or a related field
Experience in radio interferometry, fast radio transient work, and/or gamma ray burst host galaxy investigations
