Job Description Job Title: President's Communications Manager Department: Office of the President Grade: 10 FLSA: Exempt Title Position Reports To: Chief of Staff and Director of Projects and Protocol JOB SUMMARY The President’s Communications Manager will prepare speeches reports presentations statements articles daily correspondence social media content and other written materials on behalf of the president and other campus executives and will review and edit all communication pieces from various departments across campus that prepare materials for the President. In addition the President’s Communications Manager serves as the lead strategist and writer for crisis communications. RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the President in preparing addresses introductions and other written material a process which includes researching writing editing and consulting as well as developing and maintaining collegial relationships with professional peers at Adelphi and throughout the relevant professional community.Draft correspondence and messages on behalf of the president and ensure that letters are accurate and reflect the president’s voice and style.Contribute expertise to the research and development of strategic reports speeches position statements articles opinion pieces and other communiques on behalf of the President focusing on institutional priorities initiatives and topics of relevance. Research may involve substantive evaluation and integration of emerging literature quantitative analysisDraft policies in collaboration with content experts internal and external to the University.Work discreetly on sensitive or delicate assignments exercise sound editorial judgment and maintain the trust and confidence of the president senior executives and their staff.Review and approve communications from other areas (University Advancement Alumni Relations University Communications Student Life etc.)Assist the president in preparation for media videos and speeches.Develop campus-wide messaging on important topics on behalf of Executive Leadership.Provide strategic coordination on behalf of the Office of the President to successfully facilitate executive-level messaging and planning for the University.Work with members of Executive Leadership and the University Communications unit to ensure integrated and cohesive communications outcomes.Maximize the power of written spoken and visual images; articulate and illustrate complex ideas to convey the University's and the president's essential messages in ways that resonate with public audiences.
WORKING WITH UNIVERSITY COMMUNICATIONS
Manage in collaboration with University Communications all presidential social media platforms; maintain current biographies for the president and ensure that the president’s website and website assets including photography and video are kept up to date.Proactively update in collaboration with the Library the president’s Wikipedia page.Maintain active files of data resource materials and marketing information.Coordinates all communication activities including content development planning presentation and logistics on behalf of the Office of the President in order to ensure a professional image to the University's constituencies.Also regularly updates the President’s website.
Through solid strategic judgment and quick assessment of issues lead the University’s proactive and reactive position on minor-to-major reputational management.Closely collaborate with peers in media relations social media Public Safety and Executive Leadership.Direct and manage crisis communications activities.Develop maintain update and execute the University’s crisis communications plan and associated response plans from a communications perspective.Serve as University spokesperson.

Capacity to write rapidly and effectively in a deadline-driven environment.Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability including a willingness to undertake both mundane and high profile tasks with enthusiasm and energy.Demonstrated ability to attend to both grammatical and factual details; desire to gain expertise with Adelphi’s Editorial Style Guidelines.A collaborative mindset.Understanding and familiarity of the operations of a university president’s office.Passion for social media as a communications tool and experience with Twitter Facebook and Instagram.Ability to handle highly confidential information with an appropriate level of discretion integrity and professional judgement with sensitivity to both individual and organizational needs.Support of the University’s commitment to maintaining a diverse and inclusive environment.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Ability to represent the University to all media outlets during times of crisisExperience with Microsoft Word PowerPoint and other presentation tools.Ability to work night and weekend hours when necessary; hours for the position are variedStrong background in/experience with successful organizational communication responsibilities including demonstrated expertise in planning and delivering a wide variety of programs and communications.Excellent communication and leadership skills to motivate others providing compelling explanations or instructions listening effectively and communicating in ways that are clear and specific; strong presentation and writing skills are essential.Ability to develop collegial relationships with professional peers and throughout the relevant professional community.Ability to efficiently multitask at a high level and effect problem-solving strategies for unique and complex issues.Maintain productivity in both quantity and quality of work and appropriately plan organize and prioritize work in order to maximize the resource utilization of the department.

Bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in communications marketing public relations journalism public administration or equivalent.A minimum of 5 years related experience required.Experience in executive communications for a higher education institution preferred.Five samples of your work must be submitted with the application for this position.
