Summary: The Senior Financial Analyst works with minimal supervision and assists the Director, Finance and Administration in providing administrative and financial direction to departments, programs, and activities. This position is also responsible for the coordination and management of budget and financial planning processes for the School of Business and manages direct use of restricted funds and monitors fiscal operations.
Manages the preparation of ongoing budget to actual related financial reports on operating and restricted funds; monitors actuals versus budget; advises senior administration regarding variances and salary/operating issues impacting the budget.
Performs data and trend analysis via data downloads from ERP system into Excel and/or Access, with responsibility for developing applicable Excel templates and Access queries and reports.
Provides ad hoc financial analyses to senior administration as requested; performs information research and analysis as needed for special projects, new programs, and ventures in the University.
Executes processes, events, and other budget and financial planning experiences that align with the School’s strategic vision, in collaboration with faculty and staff.
Manages use of restricted funds, tracks endowment earnings, and in partnership with Advancement, ensures that donor terms are honored.
Works closely with Faculty Affairs to identify and track faculty professorships, fellowships, and associated financial commitments while ensuring that restricted funding is sufficient to cover commitments.
Collaborates and engages with colleagues, particularly the Finance and Administration team, but also in other degree programs and those serving in other functional areas to realize excellence.
May supervise or direct work of junior staff.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree with at least five years related accounting or business experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Ability to prepare financial statements and financial analysis reports as needed.
Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
Demonstrated understanding of sound accounting and financial management principles for a complex organization.
Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures as they relate to business, finance, management, and information systems.
Knowledge of cost analysis techniques.
Ability to develop financial plans and manage resources.
Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills both verbally and in writing.
Ability to analyze and interpret policy and procedural questions.
Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to solve problems and adapt to changes quickly and positively.
Ability to independently perform information research and analysis for new programs and ventures.
Microsoft Office proficiency, specifically in Excel (i.e. templates development, pivot tables, and macros) and Access (i.e. downloading data, queries, and reports).
Master’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting.
Experience in higher education.
