DREAM Charter School, a rigorous, Pre K-9th grade public charter school in East Harlem is seeking a dynamic and innovative individual to serve as a BilingualCommunity-Based Social Worker. This role will support the school in meeting the social, emotional and developmental needs of scholars by linking scholars and families to community resources and services.
Like all DREAM employees, the DREAM School Community-Based Social Worker should demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission and values of DREAM Charter School and should have substantial expertise in all areas of responsibility.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Create and maintain positive partnerships with community service providers to support scholars’ and families’ needs;
Establish and maintain trusting relationships with scholars and their families for the purpose of linking scholars and families to community resources;
Provide strengths-based case management services to select scholars and families in need of assistance;
Inform organization-wide referral process to document and track community referrals and family outcomes;
Provide “at risk” counseling services to individuals and groups of identified students;
Conduct consults for scholars and families in need of additional support;
Assist school leaders with crisis intervention – assess high-risk situations and make immediate recommendations and referrals to ensure child safety, and follow-up for youth as needed;
Collaborate with teachers and administrators on strategies to support at-risk students;
Design and deliver family/staff/volunteer/community workshops and training;
Play an active role in school-wide attendance support initiatives
Maintain case records and monthly reports.
Bachelor's in Social Work required; Master’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or Mental Health Counseling preferred;
Strong clinical and community skills and the ability and desire to work in a non-traditional setting;
1-3 years of previous school-based counseling experience preferred;
Strong commitment to social justice and strengths-based work;
Experience and cultural competency in working with urban black and Latino youth and families;
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Bilingualism in Spanish required;
Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
The Bilingual Community-Based Social Worker role is a position is year round based on the calendar year, not the school year. Some evenings and occasional weekends are required.

In September 2008, Harlem RBI opened DREAM Charter School. DREAM’s mission is to prepare students for high-performing high schools, colleges and beyond through a rigorous academic program that develops critical thinkers who demonstrate a love of learning, strong character, and a commitment to wellness and active citizenship. DREAM inspires every student to recognize their potential and realize their dreams. DREAM currently serves 250 students in grades K-4 and will grow one grade (50 students) each year until it reaches capacity with grades K-8 and a total of 450 students.
