Position Summary Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Annual Giving, the Assistant Director of Annual Giving will assist in the day-to-day management of the planning, implementation, and continuation of comprehensive direct mail and electronic solicitation campaigns which increase annual giving dollars and participation from alumni, parents and friends. Will serve as a liaison to Advancement Services for data needs and report development by requesting, coordinating and verifying all data needed for annual giving solicitations with appropriate University Advancement staff. Under the direction of the Associate Director, serve as a liaison to University Advancement Communication, Creative Services, and Graphics Services to execute the design, functionality and print-quality of direct mail and e-marketing campaigns. Assist in ensuring all managed prospects receive appropriate annual giving solicitations. Assist in coordinating department solicitations including but not limited to schools and colleges, athletics, and student development. Attend and assist with Annual Giving and select University Advancement events throughout the fiscal year.

Duties and Responsibilities
Support of the Comprehensive Direct Marketing Program: Under the supervision of the Associate Director, will execute elements of the direct marketing programs that solicit alumni, parents and friends to increase revenue to the University and participation in the annual giving program. Work with the Associate Director to create and implement an effective strategy to schedule all appeals; to determine various segments of alumni, parents and friends for targeted outreach through mail, phone and email; and develop appropriate messaging, ask amounts, and timing throughout the fiscal year. Maintain comprehensive calendar of solicitation activities and coinciding tracking documents that ensure all projects remain on schedule. Support solicitations for the reunion giving program, the Villanova Athletic Fund, affinity giving, crowdfunding, and the Senior Class Gift. Initiate data requests and work directly with Advancement Services to obtain correct data for each method of communication and work with the Senior Administrative Assistant to ensure accurate cleaning of data for each method of communication. Make recommendations for data enhancements and report development to improve results of annual giving initiatives.
Donor Acquisition and Retention: Working toward monthly goals for donor acquisition and retention, the Assistant Director will conduct personal solicitation outreach (primarily phone and email) to unassigned undergraduate alumni, targeting members of the Annual Giving Societies (President’s Club, President’s Club Associates, Young Alumni Circle, Caritas and Loyalty Society) and other select constituents. Will also manage and execute (with the support of other Annual Fund staff members) with monthly “anniversary” outreach to ensure all previous year donors receive notification on the anniversary of their last gift.
Stewardship: Assist the Associate Director in executing Stewardship tasks for Annual Giving Donors. Work with the Gift Processing team to identify and contact potential matching gift donors to secure additional dollars from eligible alumni, parents and friends, in addition to coordinating stewardship to acknowledge donors once matching gifts are received.
Social Media Management: Collaborate with University Advancement Communication to implement strategies for marketing and soliciting on the Annual Giving Facebook page and other University channels. Find new ways for the Annual Fund to utilize social media platforms in order to expand our reach and target different groups in order to encourage giving, promote Annual Giving campaigns and feature both donor and student impact stories.
Support the overall Annual Fund and University Advancement initiatives in order to meet campaign goals, especially in regards to undergraduate alumni participation. This includes, but is not limited to events such as Homecoming Weekend, Volunteer Leader’s Conference, Senior Class Gift events and Reunion Weekend. Assist in managing student workers who support Annual Giving projects.
Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Business/ Marketing/ Communications.
The successful candidate will have a broad base of general knowledge and skills in fundraising with specifically related experience in annual giving programs. Must possess good planning and administrative skills, excellent verbal and writing skills, strong work ethic, demonstrated ability to work with volunteers and donors and the ability to manage several projects simultaneously. Must have knowledge and understanding of fund-raising.
1-3 years of experience in direct mail marketing, annual giving, or university advancement.
Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work in a fast paced environment required. Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills required. Must be well organized and detail oriented.
Knowledge of general office equipment, including personal computers, word processing, Excel, Access and or other spreadsheet programs required. Knowledge of Banner or other fundraising software.
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of direct mail methods and standards and experience with market segmentation, internet solicitation strategies, and graphic design preferred.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours Evening and weekend work and some travel required.
