The University of Maryland, Baltimore Department of Psychiatry has an opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to work part-time at the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center (MPRC) located in Catonsville on the grounds of Spring Grove Hospital. This position will provide clinical support to an inpatient and outpatient research program and clinical services in the outpatient program. Research and clinical procedures include performing medical/psychiatric histories, physical exams and other nursing related assessments that may be part of a study protocol. As part of the clinical team in the outpatient program, the position will help in the assessment of new clinic patients, in the routine psychiatric care of patients followed in the clinic, and with assessments performed by the program's Licensed Practical Nurse.
An internationally recognized research center, the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center (MPRC) is a division of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. The MPRC is dedicated to providing treatment to patients with schizophrenia and related disorders, educating professionals and consumers about schizophrenia, and conducting basic and translational research into the manifestations, causes, and treatment of schizophrenia. MPRC operates as a joint program with the State of Maryland Mental Hygiene Administration and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

This is a Part-Time position (20 hours/50%).
The position is located in Catonsville, Maryland.
Perform research related assessments including obtaining medical and psychiatric history, performing physical exams, electrocardiograms (EKG), laboratory exams, and research related nursing and clinician assessments including side effect checklists and symptoms ratings.
Performs clinical nursing assessments that may include taking vital signs, EKG, laboratory procedures, and clinical care diagnostic evaluations. Exercises autonomy in medical decision making.
Responsible for routine care in the clinics including patient evaluation, supervision of social work therapists, medication monitoring, and in accordance with state guidelines, may prescribe medications.
Provide collaboration and communication with outside provider(s).
Supervise exempt or non-exempt nurse(s) and provide input regarding performance management.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education: Completion of an accredited nurse practitioner program or physician assistant program. Licensure: Current state of Maryland licensure as an Adult Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. Preferred: Prior clinical research experience preferred. Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure preferred in addition to required licensure.

Capable of interacting pleasantly and positively with others to meet customer expectations, and provide follow up with clients.
Hiring Range for this position is in the mid 40s at 50%, commensurate with education and experience
