Tasks required by this position include the ability to perform human factors research activities in accordance with the regulatory agency requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration. The qualified candidate must be a doctorate level (Ph.D.) experimental psychologist (or related discipline such as human factors engineering) able to conduct field and laboratory research (i.e., design experiments, implement experimental procedures, troubleshoot, collect data, analyze data, interpret statistical analyses, perform literature reviews, write reports summarizing findings, present work at conferences, etc.). The qualified candidate should have flight deck experience, experience with advanced synthetic vision systems to include 3D Planar, stereoscopic, Holographic, head up, head down, and head mounted displays. Incumbent will serve as a principal investigator on aviation human factors research projects.
The curriculum of related degrees should include graduate level coursework in areas such as advanced research methods, statistical methods, psychometric theory, multi-level modeling, structural equation modeling, multivariate statistics, as well as core experimental psychology domains including coursework in: engineering psychology, cognition and brain science, human abilities, cognitive psychology, industrial/organizational psychology, individual differences; criterion theory and development; job and task analysis; employee selection and placement; performance appraisal; training theory; and work motivation. Coursework/experience in counseling, therapeutic methods, and clinical methods are not applicable and do not apply.
Experience conducting research in human factors, aviation, flight deck, or aerospace is required. Applicants must furnish positive evidence of having performed research and produced products from those endeavors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work as lead investigator on an assigned project/task with little or no technical direction
Serve as a task leader on important, complex, time-sensitive activities
Coordinate team activities and participate as a member of a team to:
Design experiments, implement experimental procedures, and troubleshoot
Collect data, analyze data, and interpret statistical analyses
Perform literature reviews
Write reports summarizing findings, present work to research sponsors, peer groups, and at conferences, as required
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Ph.D. in Engineering Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Social Psychology, Applied Psychology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Industrial Engineering, or Applied Social Psychology required.
Demonstrated experience providing expert research project leadership for highly complex and challenging activities required.
Minimum 10 yrs related work experience required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Computer software (Microsoft Office) skills required, knowledge of Statistics for the Social Sciences (SPSS) or Statistical Analysis Software (SAS), ability to work independently and as a member of a team required.
This position is primarily performed in a climate controlled office setting.
