College Overview: The University of Minnesota Duluth is searching for a Corporate and Foundation Relations Development Officer. This is tremendous opportunity to join a seasoned and high-performing development team.
The nine-person UMD development team raises an average of $10 million annually in support of the university from its nearly 70,000 alumni, friends, and industry partners. UMD will launch a $120 million comprehensive campaign in October 2017, with over $75 million in gifts already raised.
Job Summary: The Corporate and Foundation Relations Development Officer will be one of a team of six major gifts officers responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift level prospective donors, defined as individuals and companies capable of contributing $50,000 or more to UMD over a five-year period. The Corporate and Foundation Relations Development Officer will manage a portfolio of prospects, consisting primarily of corporations and foundations. She/he will independently develop and execute strategies leading to solicitation of each of these prospects. Based in the UMD Central Development Office, the position will be an externally focused field officer with 60 percent of work time spent out of the office qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospects and entities within his/her portfolio.
Additionally, the Corporate and Foundation Relations Development Officer will play a key role in the management and guidance of the comprehensive campaign, serving on one or more staff management committees. The individual in this position will have access to and work collaboratively with senior academic leaders.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Chief Development Officer for UMD and working closely with the University of Minnesota Foundation ' s Corporate and Foundation Relations Team, the Corporate and Foundation Relations Development Officer is primarily responsible for: • Develops and maintains a thorough working knowledge of the UMD and individual colleges' vision and philanthropic priorities. • Develops an overall plan and strategy for corporate and foundation relations at UMD that includes goal achievement plans containing specific timelines, projected results and outcomes in consultation with the Chief Development Officer and for review by the University of Minnesota Foundation. • Partners and collaborates with the University of Minnesota Foundation's services. • Builds and maintains a portfolio of corporate and foundation prospects on behalf of UMD and its colleges, and ensures that timely steps are taken toward solicitation, closure, and stewardship. • Clears and coordinates prospective donors through the University of Minnesota Foundation's procedures and partners and collaborates with the broader U of M CFR community to ensure effective contact/solicitation of the donors which maximizes the gift to the University and the donor's satisfaction with the institution. • Develops and executes a moves management plan and solicitation strategy for each prospect in support of UMD's campaign goals. • Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards prospects capable of giving in excess of $50,000. • Conducts personal prospect visits. Solicits major gifts of $50,000 or more per year. • Plays a key role in the management and guidance of the comprehensive campaign, serving on one or more staff management committees. • Works closely with department heads, faculty, college Dean's, and the UMD Career Gen-tef and Internship Services in building and maintaining UMD's Corporate and Foundation Relations program. • Encourages the involvement of faculty in identifying and cultivating donors and soliciting gifts. • Develops proposals and written materials in support of specific major gift fundraising initiatives. • Completes timely and accurate reports utilizing the University of Minnesota Foundation's Donor Management System, employing discretion while recording information of relevance to appropriate individuals. • Collaborates with colleagues at UMD and across the University of Minnesota on donor strategies and maintaining timely, accurate reports and information. • Travels to key geographic areas as assigned and occasionally work evenings and weekends. • Participates in the Corporate Engagement Workgroup.
Required Qualifications: To be considered for the Gift Officer 3a level, candidates must have a bachelor's degree and three years' demonstrated ability to successfully solicit major gifts; or experience in marketing, sales, public relations, financial advisement or related field with emphasis on relationship cultivation and solicitation of individuals/businesses.

Preferred Qualifications: • Advanced degree • Development experience in a university setting • Strong organizational skills • Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize volunteers in fundraising efforts • Campaign fundraising experience • Willingness to travel and occasionally work evenings and weekends
