Essential Functions: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAssist other maintenance and housekeeping personnel in set up and clean up of work areas including but not limited to: transport of very heavy supplies and equipment; assist in moving non-permanent fixtures, furniture or appliances; assure work site is neat, orderly and free of unwanted debris; and, gather tools and other supplies necessary to complete work returning same to appropriate storage. Assist other maintenance and housekeeping personnel on work assignments upon request.Perform light maintenance work including but not limited to: minor electrical (replace light bulbs) and plumbing (drain stoppages); floor and window covering maintenance and repair; repair cabinets and doors; shampoo rugs; and, perform grounds keeping duties.Repair surfaces by caulking holes, cracks and joints as necessary. Repair plaster and drywall damage as necessary. Paint rooms, apartments, public areas and exterior of buildings as assigned through appropriate use of commonly accepted tools and applications (i.e., removing old coatings and preparing surfaces using materials such as sand paper, paint remover, steel wool, etc. and equipment such as brushes and scrapers).Perform other ancillary protective work including but not limited to: erecting barriers; posting signage; masking baseboards; doorframes; and windows, placing drop cloths; and removing pictures, appliances; furniture, switch plates and outlet covers. Erect ladders and scaffolding and perform work from them as well as other elevated platforms.Inspect buildings and equipment to determine required repairs and make recommendations.Inspect work site for planned work's impact on associated staff (e.g., Maintenance Staff; Housekeeping Staff) and vendors.Assist in the maintenance of all fire extinguishers and related equipment.Drive appropriate licensed vehicles for Housing business.Participate in emergency on-call duties as necessary.All Housing Maintenance employees are considered to be "Essential Personnel," and are required to report during a university emergency closure period.Assume any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh school graduate, GED, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.Reasonable recent knowledge and experience in preparation, repair and painting of interior and exterior surfaces of buildings and structures is required.Considerable knowledge of the equipment, methods and materials used in brush and roller painting is necessary.Ability to access work areas from varying heights and angles with ladders, scaffolding or appropriate means.Reasonable manual strength and dexterity is desirable.Knowledge of hazards, methods practices and safety precautions (for both workers and public) related to assigned work.Present and maintain a valid Michigan vehicle license and satisfactory driving record. Ability to operate department vehicles.
