Established in 1891, UC Berkeley Extension is the self-supporting continuing education department of the University of California, Berkeley, supporting 30,000 enrollments in over 1,500 courses for college and professional credit, certificate programs in a variety of fields, and non-credit seminars and programs of professional and general interest. The department is comprised of 150 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees and 1,300 part-time instructional staff. University Extension offers courses at 5 facilities throughout the Bay Area---including Berkeley, San Francisco, and Belmont---in addition to the Berkeley Campus and Online.
Whether students are industry professionals or a college graduates preparing for an advanced degree, UC Berkeley Extension has the academic quality they need. Our Science, Mathematics and Biotechnology program allows students to enhance their backgrounds with a variety of lower-division prerequisites and upper-division science courses to prepare for health professions programs, or further their education with coursework in advanced biosciences and biotechnology.
Our coursework will help students: Prepare for advanced programs in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy and other health care programs Stay current with the industry's latest developments and learn practical knowledge on topics of critical importance to life sciences companies Meet the math and statistics requirements to enter M.B.A. or other advanced degree programs Meet the requirements and improve science grade point averages to be a competitive applicant for graduate school or clinical laboratory science programs.
Assists in planning and scheduling course offerings and identifying course topics. Work with staff in Extension, on campus and outside organizations to ensure smooth operation of courses and programs. Schedule courses and arrange for classroom space for a portfolio of classes. Provide administrative and logistical support to the department's most complex programs, including monitoring and update online support pages for groups and programs. Under general supervision, organizes and supports existing public educational courses and assists in the development of new programs and course materials. Works directly with instructors to secure academic approval for courses submitted to COCI (Committee of Courses on Instruction). Track progress of CIA process and alert Program Director of any potential issues. Assists in the recruitment of new instructors. Provides front line support for students and instructors. Responds to inquiries from students, potential enrollees, and faculty using all available resources to market the value of UC Extension programs. Assists students in determining proper courses to complete program requirements. Applies professional concepts in providing advice and assistance to students on certificate programs and courses as needed. Assists in organization and coordination of student orientations, information sessions, departmental program support activities, instructor orientations and special events. Assists in developing, preparing and reconciling budgets for program.
Working knowledge of departmental and campus policies and procedures; knowledge of educational program content and objectives. Working knowledge of delivering public educational programs. Working knowledge of current public education programs and trends. Working skills to produce and deliver programs. Working knowledge of conducting needs assessment. Good analytical skills to understand how business needs can be addressed through the design and delivery of training programs. Good reading, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, and good presentation skills. Uses business software systems in completion of assignments (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook).
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Salary & Benefits
