Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Application Developer to report to the to the Director of Enterprise Messaging and a high level technical staff member. This position serves as a technical resource that will focus on development of Rutgers branded mobile applications. This is a popular initiative due to the increasing use of mobile devices by members of the University community. The key duties of this position are the following:
Consults with the Director, other Technical Enterprise Messaging staff and other departmental staff as required to gather and/or clarify requirements for proposed development projects and system enhancements and maintenance.
Identifies and suggests business and systems solutions to problems.
Assists in analysis, planning and development of detailed designs of new and existing mobile application requests.
Maintains/updates existing code for active mobile apps.
Writes new code for projects in development.
Prepares tests that will verify that the unit program is working, and also show through integration and/or system testing that the new or revised apps do not adversely impact the operational integrity of the entire application system.
Provide technical assistance and communications with student developers tasked with mobile apps development.
Writes operational documentation for new and revised applications with clear and concise instructions to enable them to run in a production environment.
Writes and updates user documentation to describe systems and access abilities, as required.
Performs various other tasks and duties as assigned to support the leadership team.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have knowledge of and experience in many of the following topics, including software development, web programming, PHP, MySQL/SQL, database design, object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, and problem solving.
Also requires good communications, documentation and organizational skills.
Knowledge and some experience in mobile app programming and development in the Apple iOS and/or Android platforms.
Preferences include development experience with one or more of the following platforms: iOS SDKs and environments including XCode, and/or Android SDKs and environments including Android Studio.
Familiar with Vendor Interface, User Interface Design, Adobe Illustrator.
Experience with Objective C, Swift, XML/JSON/RSS feeds, and GIS/electronic mapping also desirable.
Use of mobile vendor software, such as Android Studio and/or Apple XCode, is necessary.
