The part-time Circulation Assistant oversees the lending and return of materials at the Main Circulation Desk during late evening and weekend hours as scheduled. The person in this position is responsible for answering patron questions relating to Access Services and serves as a resource for questions relating to other Library services. This person oversees the work of the student assistants at the Main Circulation Desk, and is the point of contact for students at other Access Services desks during the hours scheduled. It is expected that vacation time will be taken only during intersession periods.

Monday-Friday 9am-1pm, Saturdays 10am-2pm as required.
Supervising Circulation Desk Late Nights and Weekends
Provides first point of contact, answers questions, resolves problems, explains and enforces policies for library patrons in person, by phone or by email. Escalates concerns and refers patrons to appropriate staff when unable to provide resolution to questions.Supervises work of student assistants at the Circulation Desk to ensure quality and consistency of service.
Ensures access to the library and library materials by creating borrowing cards for qualifying patrons, resolving account issues, and negotiating fine disputes with patrons in accordance with library policy.
Provides access to materials by assisting patrons in locating materials, pulling books from the stacks as needed to fill patron requests and emptying exterior book drops.
Closes the department and completes nightly log for communication with daytime supervisors.
Serves as a point of contact for student staff from the Multimedia desk, Information Commons, and branch libraries. May be called upon to resolve questions students are unable to answer, monitor student worker attendance, and fill in at desks as needed.
Attends and actively participates in Access Services department and quarterly Circulation unit meetings in order to share information and learn from peers.

A high school diploma, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired
Significant customer service experience in a fast-paced library, retail, or similar environment
Computer proficiency: successfully uses multiple software programs including email, office productivity software and file management.
Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds
Ability to reach, bend, climb, stoop, crouch, lift, push and/or pull objects and/or furniture while shelving or maintaining the library.

Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
College Degree or working toward a college degree.
At least one year of experience in a library or equivalent environment (academic library preferred).
Familiarity with standard library circulation methods and procedures.
Familiarity with Alma integrated library system, ILLiad interlibrary loan management software
