Help to build our future! Capital Group’s Corporate Archives serves as our institutional memory, ensuring that knowledge of our past persists over generations of associates (employees), and helps to inform our decisions. We deliver a sustainable program of archival content curation, research, and preservation services, in support of Capital’s current and anticipated business priorities and heritage needs. We are a relatively new team, serving a private company with an 85-year history, strong culture, and valued past.
As the Head of Corporate Archives based in Los Angeles, California, you’ll assume leadership and stewardship of this function and team. We maintain collections dating back to the 1930s, deliver research and reference services, and regularly participate in associate engagement and heritage programs. We have an experienced and respected team of associates who have deep knowledge of Capital’s history and our collections, and are excited to build upon success as we implement foundational technology and preservation solutions in the years to come.
Sets the strategic vision and business objectives for the Corporate Archives function.
Develops and maintains business relationships with key stakeholders and major client departments throughout the organization globally, to define collecting scopes, communicate strategies, and promote use.
Develops and presents annual goals and budget to the senior leadership committee for approval.
Leads the Corporate Archives team in the accomplishment of all archival activities and capabilities, and serves as the ultimate decision-maker for content selection, risk-management, request prioritization, and other points of escalation.
Educates and advocates for long-term digital preservation of organizational content assets.
Oversees the technology strategy and implementation of Corporate Archives systems and preservation strategies.
Leverages expertise in consulting partners, as needed, to establish the foundational technology systems and metadata schema / vocabularies that underpin a successful digital asset management and preservation strategy.
Oversees the Digital Archivist in their day-to-day responsibilities for leading systems configuration, implementation, and use.
Provides oversight and guidance for digitization initiatives (video, audio, document, image).
Negotiates service agreements and SOWs with consultants and vendors, working with Legal / Contracts to manage risk on behalf of Capital.
Manages Capital’s oral history program
Identifies and selects target candidates, with input from business leadership.
Performs background research, develops interview discussion guide, conducts interviews, and ensures appropriate confidentiality is maintained.
Ensures on-site archival physical storage and workroom facilities are maintained as appropriate for long-term materials preservation and use.
Stays abreast of current trends, industry best practices and develops professional networks to improve department capabilities and outcomes.
Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution with a concentration in archival studies; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of eight years’ experience working in an archival environment, preferably in a corporate archives setting.
Demonstrated success building high-performing teams by effectively leading and providing work direction, and associates development through coaching and mentoring.
Experience developing and implementing an archival program, preferably focused on digital and digitized item-level assets.
Experience in leading the successful implementation of archival technology systems.
Experience implementing archival access and preservation solutions for all media types, including video / audio.
Ability to work effectively and closely with all levels of management within and across the organization.
