The Director reports to the Associate Vice President for Campus Life and serves as a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team. Working under limited supervision, the director is responsible for the overall management of the MOSAIC Cross Cultural Center, and maintaining San Jose State University’s commitment to cultural diversity and social justice, through the development and implementation of both large and small scale programs that encourage student participation in organized co-curricular activities which integrate the academic experiences. Under the Director’s leadership, the Center strives to create a means by which cultural differences are celebrated; providing members of the SJSU community with opportunities to learn more about each other, and prepare students to be successful contributors within our global society. The Director advises students, student clubs and organizations, assist in conflict resolution, problem-solving, leadership development and serve on campus committees and projects. The director works in partnership with the Solidarity Network Group which consists of the Pride Center, Gender Equity Center, Cesar Chavez Community Action Center, and Student Health Services. The Director must work collaboratively with various departments and Divisions across the campus, including, but not limited to Counseling Services, Accessibility Education Center, EOP, etc., helping to coordinate diversity education and training and providing expertise when diversity issues and concerns arise. This position may be appointed to various campus committees that related to initiatives related to diversity, campus climate, and inclusive excellence.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
The programming and development dialogue around diversity. Design, implement, evaluate, and market comprehensive programs and services that offer education, advocacy, support, mentoring, and safe space and environment for all our campus community. These programs focus on multicultural awareness and competency.
Participate in campus, community, and professional diversity and social justice initiatives such as serving on committees, participating in policy review, and supporting outreach, recruitment, admission and retention efforts.
Provide sound fiscal management of the Center, including the development and monitoring of the annual the budget, providing mid-year budget projections and reports; identification of short and long term goals and priorities for the Center with an estimated budget for each of the goals where appropriate.
