Variable hours up to 25 hours per week between 7:00PM and 7:00AM, including weekends and holidays
Under general direction, receives records and disseminates emergency and non?emergency calls for service from the public in person and on routine phone lines. Communicates information to police, fire and ambulance personnel via two?way radio. Assists the general public with non?emergency services at the front desk of the Police Department. Provides customer service and acts as first point of contact for the Police Department for walk-in citizens. Takes and routes messages, dispatches non-emergency calls, answers radio, answers questions for the public by providing factual information, handles inquiries and complaints from walk-in citizens. Enters a variety of data into computer. Answers complaints and provides general information regarding City services. Monitors the radio/alarms for the City and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) at all times, including the confirmation of arrest warrants. Monitors video cameras and alarm systems at Civic Center, elevator alarms, tower site alarms and contacts appropriate parties. Communicates with callers and provides specific instructions to callers. Contacts appropriate parties such as power companies, business owners, road crews, etc. to respond to scenes. Releases paper work/tow slips to owners of vehicles and accepts money as payments for parking fines. Ensures restricted access to Police and Fire Department building. Answers CrimeStoppers Line and generates tip reports. Checks serial numbers on items to determine if stolen. Maintains and updates business contact lists and house watch lists. Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Minimum education, experience and certification
High school diploma or equivalent required. One year general office and public contact experience involving the use of current computer equipment required. Successful completion of the National Crime Information Center online workbook within two weeks of hire; and successful completion of a certification class within 6 months of hire. Six months experience in a customer service field preferred. Must pass criminal background check.
