The University of Maryland, Baltimore Department of Financial Services is seeking a Supervisor of Student Accounts. Under general supervision, the Supervisor of Student Accounts is responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of the Student Accounts Receivable and Cashier areas of Student Accounting, which includes billing, collections, and income recording of the Student Accounts Receivable as well as the cash processing activity of the University Cashier. The Supervisor of Student Accounts maintains the fee schedule in the database system to insure that tuition is assessed properly and revenue is credited to the proper ledger accounts; schedules, trains and motivates customer service personnel to insure excellent customer service to the University community.

Ensure compliance with federal privacy laws, State Central Collection Unit requirements, and University tuition collection procedures.
Maintain a thorough understanding of the student account assessment infrastructure to insure that tuition and fees are accurately assessed and that the proper accounts are credited for revenue and internal payments.
Ensure the adequate internal control procedures over payments of Tuition and Fees, Tuition Remission, and other internal payments.
Oversee the administration of Student Health Insurance enrollments and billings as well as Third Party tuition and fees Receivable.
Determine work priorities, plans, schedules, assigns and reviews work. Train and evaluate assigned personnel.
Investigate and resolves difficult or highly sensitive collections or receivables problems. Interact with students and the University community in order to explain University procedures
Participate in system development and testing as required.
Implement process improvements, where practicable and workable, to maintain an efficient operation and streamline internal business practices.
Communicate Student Accounting information to students and the campus through various channels including the web and printed materials.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field of study (Master's degree and/or additional certification is preferred).
Experience: Three (3) years related experience in student accounting including experience with accounting databases, and student information management systems or other financial systems.
Supervisory: One (1) year of direct supervisory or responsibility for training, work coordination, and monitoring of work of others.
Preferred: Prior student receivables experience is highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Possess knowledge of budget and/or financial principles and systems (i.e. loan fund accounting, GAAP, financial models). Knowledge and skills related to maintain a moderate complex computerized records system. Ability to maintain high standards with the work being performed and maintain awareness of trends and influences. Demonstrated ability to analyze, compare and interpret data, format into reports and make judgments based upon this knowledge. Assumes personal responsibility for all outcomes; makes effective and timely decisions; Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work. Demonstrated accuracy and attention to details. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with relative independence and the capacity to work as part of a team when required. Ability to perform multiple assignments simultaneously. Skill in using Microsoft Office software and PeopleSoft financial system for advanced analysis and useful reporting.
Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Writes and presents information in a clear and concise way. Interprets and understands written information and is able to listen attentively to verbal and non-verbal cues that lead to a deeper understanding.
